# Quick Search

> Documentation release: **FMRTE 27** (published release).

Quick Search finds records by name or ID and turns supported descriptions into filters. [Load your savegame](https://docs.fmrte.com/getting-started/load-game.md) first.

## Find a record

1. Select the search box in the top bar, or press **Ctrl+F** (**Cmd+F** on macOS).
2. Type part of a name or a unique ID.
3. Select the correct result to open its record.

![Quick Search with ranked matches and record previews](https://docs.fmrte.com/img/fmrte27/search/quick-search.png)

Matches appear as you type. Names ignore capitals and accents. Use **Group by type** to separate record types, or **See All Results** to open the full results list. The men's and women's football switches control which records are searched. A women's club or competition shows **(Women's)** after its name.

Use the arrow keys to select a result, **Enter** to open it, and **Esc** to close the panel. With no selected row, Enter runs the full search. An empty search lists all records. If indexing is still in progress, wait for the panel to finish indexing the save.

## Record types

Quick Search finds eight types of record by name. A number also finds the record with that ID, in any type, as well as names that contain it.

| Type | Matches | The row shows | Selecting it opens |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Player** | Full name or common name | Nation flag, age, up to three positions rated 15 or higher, and the club (the loan club during a loan) or **Free Player** | The [player](https://docs.fmrte.com/players/overview.md) |
| **Staff** | Full name or common name | Nation flag, age, and the club or **Free Agent** | The [staff member](https://docs.fmrte.com/staff-and-managers/staff.md) |
| **Club** | Name or short name | The flag of the club's nation | The [club](https://docs.fmrte.com/clubs/overview.md) |
| **Nation** | Name, short name or three-letter code | The nation's flag | The [nation](https://docs.fmrte.com/nations/overview.md) |
| **Competition** | Name or short name | The flag of the competition's nation | The [competition](https://docs.fmrte.com/clubs/editing-competitions.md) |
| **Stadium** | Name | The name only | The [stadium](https://docs.fmrte.com/clubs/stadium.md) |
| **Injury** | Injury name | The name only | The injury type, with its duration, causes and treatment settings for the whole game |
| **Official** | Full name or common name | The name only | The match official (referee) |

Each row ends with its type. Closer name matches come first. Among equal matches, players, staff and competitions with a higher reputation come first, and clubs with a higher first-team reputation.

With **Group by type** on (the default), results appear under one heading per type, in the order above, with the number of matches and up to six rows each. Turn it off to see the 12 best matches of all types in one **Results** list. You can't limit Quick Search to one type: the **See All** link beside a type opens the same full results list as **See All Results**.

![Quick Search for England with results grouped under Players, Staff, Clubs, Nations, Stadiums and Officials](https://docs.fmrte.com/img/fmrte27/search/quick-search-types.png)

The men's and women's football switches filter players, staff, clubs and competitions. Nations, stadiums, injuries and officials always appear.

## Describe the players you want

1. Type **young left footed winger with good dribbling**.
2. Read the filter chips and the **Name contains** text.
3. Remove an unwanted filter with its **×** control.
4. Select **See All**, or press **Enter**, to open the results.

![Sentence search with interpreted filter chips and player matches](https://docs.fmrte.com/img/fmrte27/search/quick-search-filters.png)

Check the chips before using the results: **young** means an age bound, while **good dribbling** means Dribbling of at least 14. Unrecognised words become a name filter. Removing a chip can return its words to that name filter.

| Description | Search |
| --- | --- |
| **crossing at least 15** | Crossing 15 or higher |
| **age between 18 and 21** | Age 18–21 |
| **scouts from portugal** | Staff matching the recognised job and nationality |
| **winger born in bilbao** | Players whose city of birth is Bilbao |
| **professional clubs with transfer budget over 50m** | Club status and transfer-budget filters |

This is a local search parser. It does not send the query to an AI service. Supported criteria are combined, and several recognised positions can match any of those positions. It is not a general-purpose OR/NOT query language and does not cover every Advanced Search criterion.

## More examples

| Description | Result to check in the chips |
| --- | --- |
| **tall centre back with heading 15 to 18** | Centre-back position, Height at least 185 cm, Heading 15–18 |
| **clinical striker with ca 150 and pa 170+** | Striker position, Finishing and Composure at least 15, CA at least 150, PA at least 170 |
| **staff with excellent working with youngsters** | Working With Youngsters at least 16 |
| **staff with world class reputation** | Reputation at least 8,500 |
| **free agent staff with physiotherapy 16+** | Unattached staff with Physiotherapy at least 16 |

## Quick reference

Use these common phrases to build a description, then check the filter chips. The full reference below includes every supported English alias.

| To filter by… | Try | Meaning |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Age | **young** | Players aged 23 or younger, staff aged 35 or younger |
| An age range | **age between 18 and 21** | Ages 18–21, including both ends |
| A good attribute | **good dribbling** | Dribbling 14 or higher |
| A minimum attribute | **crossing at least 15** | Crossing 15 or higher |
| An exact attribute | **crossing 15** | Crossing exactly 15 |
| Potential ability | **pa 170+** | Potential Ability at least 170 |
| Preferred foot | **left footed** | Left Foot 15 or higher |
| A continent | **players from south america** | Players with a nationality in South America |
| A place of birth | **born in bilbao** | People born in Bilbao, or in any city of a region with that name |
| Unattached staff | **free agent staff with physiotherapy 16+** | Unattached staff with Physiotherapy at least 16 |

For player searches, start with a position such as **winger** or **striker**. For staff, start with **staff** or a job such as **scout**. This helps distinguish shared words such as **fitness**.

## Player and staff trigger reference

Expand a group to see its phrases and meanings. All groups start collapsed, and the complete tables remain available on this page.

The tables below list the English trigger phrases, including aliases. English is included alongside the vocabulary for your selected app language. Translated attribute names, positions, jobs and grammar phrases are also recognised. Check the chips when a word has different meanings in those languages. Capitals, accents and hyphens do not affect matching, so **left-footed** and **left footed** work the same way.

Start a player description with a position, such as **striker** or **winger**, to keep ambiguous words in the player search. A staff job, such as **scout**, normally selects staff automatically. To explicitly search staff, use `backroom staff`, `non player`, `non players`, `staff`, `staff member`, `staff members`. Words such as **players** are joining words rather than an explicit target switch. An explicit staff target takes priority over a position word.

Combine criteria with **with** or **and**. Different criteria must all match. Position words form one choice: **striker or winger** matches either position. **or** does not create alternatives between other filters, and **not** is not a negation operator. Use one job and one club/nationality origin in a description. A later job or origin replaces an earlier one.

### Shared rules

<details id="age">
<summary>Age</summary>

| Trigger phrases | Players | Staff |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `kid`, `kids`, `prospect`, `prospects`, `young`, `youngster`, `youth` | Age 23 or younger | Age 35 or younger |
| `teen`, `teenage`, `teenager`, `teenagers`, `teens` | Age 19 or younger | Age 19 or younger |
| `experienced`, `old`, `senior`, `veteran`, `veterans` | Age 30 or older | Age 50 or older |
| `age`, `aged`, `ages` | Use a number or range: `age 25`, `aged 25`, `age between 18 and 21` | Same syntax |
| `y o`, `year old`, `years`, `years old`, `yo` | Use after a number: `25 years old`, `25 yo`, `25 y.o.` | Same syntax |
| `younger than` | `younger than 23`: age 22 or younger | Same exclusive bound |
| `older than` | `older than 30`: age 31 or older | Same exclusive bound |
| `u` followed immediately by an age, such as `u19`, `u21`, `u23` | `u21`: age 21 or younger | Same inclusive bound |

**under 21** means 20 or younger, while **u21** includes age 21. To set a precise range, use **age between 18 and 21**. Avoid using **youngsters** as an age word: it is an alias for the staff attribute **Working With Youngsters**. Use **young**, **youngster**, or an explicit age instead.

</details>

<details id="numbers-comparisons-and-quality">
<summary>Numbers, comparisons and quality</summary>

Put a comparison after an attribute name, for example **dribbling at least 15**. A number alone means an exact attribute value: **dribbling 15** or **15 dribbling** means exactly 15. Use **15+** for a minimum.

| Trigger phrases | Meaning | Example |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `and above`, `and up`, `at least`, `min`, `minimum`, `no less than`, `not less than`, `or better`, `or higher`, `or more`, `plus` | 15 or higher | `crossing at least 15`, `crossing >= 15`, `crossing 15+` |
| `above`, `better than`, `bigger than`, `exceeding`, `greater than`, `higher than`, `larger than`, `more than`, `over` | 16 or higher | `crossing over 15`, `crossing > 15` |
| `and below`, `at most`, `max`, `maximum`, `no more than`, `or less`, `or lower`, `up to` | 15 or lower | `crossing at most 15`, `crossing <= 15`, `crossing 15 or less` |
| `below`, `less than`, `lower than`, `smaller than`, `under`, `worse than` | 14 or lower | `crossing under 15`, `crossing < 15` |
| `equal to`, `equals`, `exactly` | 15 only | `crossing exactly 15`, `crossing = 15`, `crossing 15`, `15 crossing` |
| `between` | 12–16, including both ends | `crossing between 12 and 16` |
| `to` | 12–16, including both ends | `crossing 12 to 16`, `crossing 12-16` |

The same comparisons work with age and reputation. The shorthand number suffixes are `k`, `thousand` for thousands, `m`, `million`, `millions` for millions, and `b`, `billion`, `billions` for billions. For example, **reputation 5k+** means at least 5,000.

Use these quality words before an attribute, such as **excellent passing**, or after it, such as **passing excellent**:

| Qualifier phrases | 1–20 attributes | Reputation |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `amazing`, `elite`, `enormous`, `exceptional`, `huge`, `incredible`, `massive`, `outstanding`, `superb`, `top`, `world class` | 18 or higher | 8,500 or higher |
| `big`, `brilliant`, `excellent`, `great`, `high`, `large`, `rich`, `strong`, `superior`, `very good`, `wealthy` | 16 or higher | 7,000 or higher |
| `good`, `healthy`, `nice`, `solid` | 14 or higher | 5,000 or higher |
| `average`, `decent`, `fair`, `moderate`, `ok`, `okay`, `reasonable` | 12 or higher | 3,000 or higher |
| `limited`, `low`, `modest`, `small` | 10 or lower | 3,000 or lower |
| `awful`, `bad`, `broke`, `poor`, `terrible`, `tiny`, `weak` | 8 or lower | 1,500 or lower |

An attribute without a number or qualifier means **good**: **dribbling** means at least 14, and **reputation** means at least 5,000. A qualifier before a position, such as **good striker**, does not add an attribute filter. For attributes where a lower value is preferable, specify a low value directly: **low injury proneness** means 10 or lower.

<details id="status-ability-feet-and-height">
<summary>Status, ability, feet and height</summary>

| Trigger phrases | Applies to | Meaning |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `available`, `bosman`, `clubless`, `free`, `free agent`, `free agents`, `free player`, `free transfer`, `no club`, `on a free`, `out of work`, `unattached`, `unemployed`, `without a club`, `without club` | Players and staff | Unattached / free-agent status. A job word does not restrict unattached staff to that contract role. |
| `newgen`, `newgens`, `regen`, `regens` | Players and staff | Generated records (regens / newgens). |
| `ca`, `current ability` | Players and staff | Current Ability minimum: `ca 150` and `current ability 150+` mean at least 150. |
| `pa`, `potential`, `potential ability` | Players and staff | Potential Ability minimum: `pa 170+` and `potential ability at least 170` mean at least 170. |
| `left foot player`, `left footed`, `left footer`, `leftie`, `lefty` | Players | Left Foot 15 or higher. |
| `right foot player`, `right footed`, `right footer` | Players | Right Foot 15 or higher. |
| `ambidextrous`, `both feet`, `both footed`, `either foot`, `two footed` | Players | Both Left Foot and Right Foot 15 or higher. |
| `gem`, `gems`, `wonder kid`, `wonder kids`, `wonderkid`, `wonderkids` | Players | The Wonderkid filter. |
| `tall` | Players | Height at least 185 cm. |

CA and PA phrases set minimums only, even when written with a bare number. Use Advanced Search for an upper bound, exact ability value or bounded ability range. **tall** is the supported height shortcut. Use Advanced Search for a different height range.

For unattached staff, combine **free agent staff** with the relevant skill requirements. **free agent scout** selects staff and free-agent status, but the current-contract Scout job filter is not applied.

</details>

<details id="club-or-nationality-origin">
<summary>Club or nationality origin</summary>

Use any of these phrases before a club or nation name: `at`, `based in`, `country`, `from`, `nation`, `nationality`, `play for`, `playing at`, `playing for`, `plays at`, `plays for`, `working at`, `working for`, `works for`.

Examples: **winger from FC Porto**, **scouts working for FC Porto**, or **staff nationality Portugal**. These phrases all use the same origin filter: a record can match a club/team association or its primary nationality. **nationality** does not force a nationality-only interpretation, and **based in** does not check the person's place of residence. Use the full club or nation name when a short name could match several records. Repeating origin phrases does not combine them, and the last one is used.

For players and staff, the words can also name a continent. **players from south america** matches every player whose nationality is in South America. Each word must appear in the continent's name, so **from north america** finds North & Central America and **from america** finds both Americas. Nation and club names still match too, so **from africa** also finds South Africa. Club searches match nation and club names only.

</details>

<details id="place-of-birth">
<summary>Place of birth</summary>

Use any of these phrases before a city or region name: `birth place`, `birthplace`, `born at`, `born in`, `native of`, `place of birth`.

Examples: **young winger born in bilbao** or **scouts born in catalonia**. A city or region matches by its whole name. When nothing has that name, names that start with the words match instead, so **born in washington** finds Washington D.C. A region includes every city in it. People with no recorded city of birth are never found this way.

This is a separate phrase from the origin phrases because many clubs carry their city's name. Place of birth applies to players and staff. In a club search the words are read as part of the name.

#### Player attributes

Every phrase in these tables accepts a number, comparison or quality word. Values use the 1–20 attribute scale, except Reputation, which uses 0–10,000. Include a player position when using an ambiguous phrase: **striker with fitness 15+** means Natural Fitness, while **staff with fitness 15+** means the coaching attribute Fitness.

The reference covers the player and staff criteria recognised by sentence search. Use Advanced Search for other fields, such as personality attributes, custom height limits, or criteria that need separate club and nationality selections.

## Refine the criteria

Select **Edit in Advanced search** to transfer the recognised criteria into [Advanced Search](https://docs.fmrte.com/scouting/search.md). Review the fields, add your other criteria, then run the search. The **Continent**, **Region of Birth** and **City of Birth** boxes are filled only when the words name exactly one. **players from america** names two continents, so neither the **Continent** nor the **Nationality** box is filled. Open Advanced Search directly with **Ctrl+Shift+F** (**Cmd+Shift+F** on macOS).

If the result is unexpected, check **Name contains**, remove unrelated words and try one criterion at a time. Use Advanced Search when the sentence parser does not support the field you need.

## Reuse a search

With an empty box, select a **Recent** search or a **Try** example. Recent searches contain the last five searches you ran. Remove one with **×**, or select **Clear** to remove the list.
