# Add a work permit to a player

> Documentation release: **FMRTE 27** (published release).

Give one player a work permit for a nation on the **Work Permit** tab, then check it in FMRTE and Football Manager.

## Before you start
> **INFO**
You need a [loaded savegame](https://docs.fmrte.com/getting-started/load-game.md) and an [activated license](https://docs.fmrte.com/help/licensing.md).

Choose the player and the nation that should issue the permit, usually the nation of the club the player plays or will play for.

## Add the permit

1. Find the player, for example using [Search](https://docs.fmrte.com/scouting/search.md#find-a-record-by-name).
2. Select **Work Permit** in the player's tabs.
3. Under **Work Permit**, select **+**.
4. Choose the nation that issues the permit.
5. Check the new row: **Nation** shows the nation you chose and **Year** shows the current in-game year.

FMRTE writes the permit as soon as you choose the nation. There is no **Save Changes** step. The new permit is permanent, so it has no **Renewal review from** date.

If you want a different year, change **Year** and select **Save Changes**.

## Check the result

1. Open the player in Football Manager and check their work permit status for that nation.
2. If the game still says the player cannot be registered, read the reason it gives. See [Registration and nationality](https://docs.fmrte.com/players/registration-and-permits.md#why-cant-i-register-this-player).
3. Save in Football Manager when the permit is as intended.

If **Work Permit Denied** lists the player's club, the game refused them a permit there. Select **Remove** beside the club to clear that refusal.

## Undo the permit

Adding a permit appears in [Edit History](https://docs.fmrte.com/tools/edit-history.md) as **Add work permit**, marked **Cannot be undone**. To take the permit away:

1. On the **Work Permit** tab, select the permit row.
2. Select **−**.

## If it did not work

- **+ is disabled:** hover over it. **Adding work permits is not available with this connection to the game** means FMRTE cannot get memory from Football Manager for a new permit.
- **Nothing was added:** FMRTE could not get memory from the game this time. Try again.
- **No new row appears:** the player already holds a permit for that nation. It is already listed.
- **No Work Permit tab:** FMRTE does not support work permits for your game version.
