# Registration, work permits and nationality

> Documentation release: **FMRTE 26** (published release).

Read the reason Football Manager gives for the player's ineligibility. Registration, permits, foreign-player quotas and home-grown rules are separate checks.

## Why can't I register this player?

| Problem | Start with |

## Serie A non-EU quota example

Before signing the player:

1. On **Information**, clear **Treated as non-EU in Italy**.
2. In **Relationships**, [add Italy as another nationality](https://docs.fmrte.com/26/players/relationships.md#add-another-nationality) and save.
3. Complete the signing in Football Manager.
4. Register the player if required.

This targets the Italian quota. Other eligibility rules still apply.

## Register a player when the window is closed

1. Open **Favorites → Profile**.
2. On **Information**, tick **Allow Squad Registration Anytime** and save.
3. Try registering the player on the competition's screen in Football Manager.
4. Check that the player appears in its registered squad.

For a **Player Squad Registration** preset, check its target and registration type in [Preset Manager](https://docs.fmrte.com/26/tools/presets.md) before applying it.

**Squad numbers:** enable **Allow Squad Numbers Anytime**, then edit **Squad Number** on the player's Contract page.

This does not open transfer windows all year. That is a separate operation with no confirmed procedure here.

## AFC, Libertadores or Sudamericana registration is missing

Registration actions include named types such as UEFA, Libertadores and Domestic. A domestic registration does not register a player for every continental cup.

AFC and Sudamericana do not have their own named types in the checked list. **Unknown (3)** is not a confirmed AFC option. Do not guess a **CustomType** or **ExtraParameter** value.

## A new signing still will not register

Stale registration records can require a specific repair. Do not clear all relationships or appearance history: those records may still be needed.

There is no confirmed workaround here for the Brazilian seven-match rule. Ask support about the exact restriction.

## Work permits

The work-permit preset has reported failures; current support still needs confirmation. Nationality and squad registration are not universal permit fixes. Check with support for your game edition and update.
